G7. DHCP, Static IP-address

1.Introduction

The VPFlowScope M can use 2 ways of assigning an IP address for a Wi-Fi network:

DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on networks. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP address every time it connects to the network. In some systems, the device’s IP address can even change while it is still connected.

Static IP: You can enter your own IP address. Note that this needs to match with the IP range of your Wi-Fi network (the first 7 numbers of your IP address). An IP address can be changed via VPStudio 2 (Chapter C1.2).

2. Establishing an Ethernet connection from your computer to your instruments

2.1 Set the IP address of your PC

In order to establish a connection to VPInstruments devices you have to change the IP address of your PC so that the devices are in the same range.

1. Go to your network and internet settings and open the Ethernet tap.2. Click change adapter options.
3. A new pop-up window appears, now click Ethernet.4. A new pop-up window appears, now click properties.
5. In this pop-up window double click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/Pv4)”.6. In this new window, you select the “use the following IP address”.
7. Fill in the IP address, Subnet mask, and the Default gateway.

Your IP address has to be in the same range as the IP address of the Transmitter.

 

 8. Click “OK” to save the settings.
